Abstract
A single/dual band frequency reconfigurable metamaterial antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna is realized as a dipole antenna loaded with metamaterial split ring resonators. In order to get frequency reconfigurable characteristic, pin diodes are inserted within the gaps of two square split-ring resonators loading the dipole arms. The design concepts supported by electromagnetic full wave simulation are presented. The results confirm that antenna can be reconfigured to switch from single band centered at 2.5 GHz for Wi-Fi applications to dual bands; (1.55 GHz to 2.6 GHz) and 3.6 GHz for GPS, UMTS and Wi-Max applications. Moreover, the antenna size is small (40 × 70 mm 2 ).
